Monzanto Sound presents: ‘The Channel’ LIVE at Jumbi.

A launch event for the collective’s debut album.

Above is a short visualiser for ‘Midas’, the third single release from Monzanto Sound’s upcoming LP ‘The Channel’.

This piece uses sound, performance, spacial design, mythology, story telling and the moving image to explore themes of excess, corruption, and overconsumption. Its narrative, borrowed from the ancient Greek allegory about greed, challenges yet also condemns and was written as a melancholic reflection on current times.

As the story goes, Midas eventually runs mad, is ridiculed, and loses everything in the end. Consequently, the song serves as much as a warning or ‘a curse’ as it does a lamentation. Alluding to the use of art, music and performance as ritual.

Monzanto Sound

Monzanto Sound are a South East London-based music collective fusing together different styles from the African Diaspora and combining them with a hypnotic, psychedelic edge. Traversing through jazz-inflected funk, psychedelic trip-hop and cosmic neo-soul, they connect the dots using pulsating grooves, hypnotic polyrhythms and soaring vocals.

Mimi has worked with the collective as a vocalist, songwriter and producer since 2020. Together they have released two musical projects and are set to release their forthcoming debut album ‘The Channel’ in August 2025.
