Black Velvet | 2020
Black Velvet is a factual short film spotlighting renowned QTIPOC cabaret collective The Cocoa Butter Club and its founder Sadie Sinner The Songbird.
Following the company’s summer-long run at the Southbank’s Underbelly Festival in 2019, Black Velvet goes behind the curtain, offering an intimate portrayal of black and brown performers who are championing diverse representation on burlesque and cabaret stages across the UK. The film was an official selection at the Fringe Queer Film & Arts Festival in 2021 and was also screened at the New Diorama Theatre in 2022 to accompany the opening of ‘Passion Fruit’: a coming-of-age comedy drama from Dior Clarke and Stephanie Martin.
